Spring Bird & Wildlife Watching

Spring is the best time for bird and wildlife watching.  One great place to do it is at Woodland Trails Bed and Breakfast.   Right outside our windows the finches are becoming very active at the sunflower seed feeders while woodpeckers work away at the suet.  Deer can be seen every evening.  By mid-March the wood ducks and Canada geese will begin arriving on our pond, Grace Lake Too.  Later,  around May 1st, on a walk down the trails one can enjoy dozens of bird species as well as the first wild flowers.

Guests came across this newly-born fawn on the trail. A half hour later, it was gone, off with its mother.

A second great place for bird watching is Crex Meadows Wildlife Area located just 20 minutes from Woodland Trails.  Visit the Crex Meadows web site and, in particular, check out their Seasonal Calendar and Programs / Events.  There is a Photo Club for anyone interested in nature photography.  Even if there isn’t a formal event going on when you are there, the Visitor Center is full of interesting displays and information.  They also have directions for self-guided tours.
