To meet and talk with horse enthusiasts, the Tamarack River Horse Camp is located just five miles up the road from Woodland Trails. On most weekends from May through October, the camp is full of people who love talking about their animals.

Motorcycling

Woodland Trails is located on a paved road and is an ideal destination for bikers from the  St. Cloud, Duluth/Superior or the Eau Claire area.   Bikers coming from or through the Twin Cities will enjoy our “Scenic Route” over paved Wisconsin back roads.   Once here, your bikes can be stored inside overnight and shined up with complimentary towels.

Riding from Woodland Trails, you can head across the border into Wisconsin, which many consider to be “bikers heaven” because of the paved roads that gently wind through woods and around lakes.

Wild Animal Photography for Amateurs!

Yes, for the adventuresome, Minnesota Wildlife Connection is located just 30 minutes from Woodland Trails. Owners Lee and Sandy Greenly house dozens of native animals at their farm on the Kettle River. Photographers from all over the world come to photograph timber wolves, coyotes, fox, cougar, bobcat, lynx, black bear and other animals in natural settings.

Once a month or so they hold a special 3-hour event for amateur photographers. Innkeeper John and his daughter Stacy participated in one of these events. For their story, click here. For more information, check Minnesota Wildlife Connection’s web site and then call owners Lee and Sandy Greenly at (320) 245-2017.

Hunting Preserve

Bear Creek Pheasant Hunting Preserve is located nearby on 370 acres of land managed for wildlife. Call owner Dale Blowers at (320) 384-6954 for further information.

Take an Airplane Ride!

If you have never taken a sightseeing ride on a small airplane, it’s an adventure to remember. A qualified pilot from Hawk Aviation in Rush City, Minnesota will take you up from their home field, which is a 45 minute drive from Woodland Trails, or they will pick you up at the airport in Hinckley or Siren, Wisconsin. The cost for airplane and pilot runs about $130 per hour.
