Congratulations to Plunkett’s!

June 30th, 2012 by woodlandtrails

As almost all past guests know, Woodland Trails innkeepers John & Sandra spent their working careers as owners and operators of Plunkett’s, a regional pest control service company.  When daughter Stacy took over in October, 2003, John & Sandra built the B&B.

Plunkett’s has thrived under Stacy’s direction.  Most recently, the company was recognized for the third year in a row by the StarTribune as one of Minnesota top 100 workplaces.

The award is based on an email survey of employees.  Plunkett’s provided the StarTribune with email addresses for all employees and 80% responded to the StarTribune survey.

Congratulations to Plunkett’s and all the people who help to make the company great!

Bears and Other Wildlife at Woodland Trails

April 27th, 2012 by woodlandtrails

Fred the Bear (bears are less frightening if they have a name!) made his first appearance outside Woodland Trails B&B on April 22nd, the earliest we’ve ever seen him.   In most years we see him regularly, sometimes during the day and sometimes at night, through the end of August.  After September 1st, he must find a better deal somewhere, such as field corn in the milk stage, and he disappears.

Thankfully, Fred has never caused serious problems.  He is content to eat corn or sunflower seeds under one of the feeders and leave the B&B and other buildings alone.

We have named him Fred, although we are probably seeing a different bear each year.  If we think it might be a female, she is Freda.  If she has cubs, they are Fanny, Francis and Freddy Jr.  On one memorable occasion several years ago, we saw the whole family at one time.

Other wildlife that guests enjoy seeing out the B&B windows include whitetail deer, an occasional fox, and lots of birds such as wood ducks on the pond and goldfinches at the feeders.

We’re Changing!

April 6th, 2011 by woodlandtrails

We hope that guests who have stayed with us many times have seen at least one new thing on each visit.

We’ve just completed some remodeling that we hope everyone will enjoy.

It started when Deb and Scott were visiting.  All of the furniture was removed from the Great Room and Dining Room.  The area rugs were just about to go.

Then, in came the floor finishers.  We’ have been really lucky with the wood floor because it has stood up very well.  Nonetheless, after eight years, it was time for a touch-up.

Finally, Sandra could show off the changes:  Refinished floor in the Great Room and Dining Room; new carpet on the stairway and second floor landing; new carpet in the Winterberry Room; and, of course, re-arranged furniture.

Next time you visit, we hope you’ll approve of the changes!

Marriage Proposals at Woodland Trails

February 28th, 2011 by woodlandtrails

Matt & Kim are engaged!

One of the neat things about being innkeepers at Woodland Trails is sharing key times with guests …. honeymoons, wedding anniversaries, birthdays and proposals of marriage.

This past Saturday, Matt proposed to Kim.  He was the 11th young man to proposal marriage here and, happily, all 11 young ladies have accepted!

Matt’s approach was a little different than anyone else’s in that there was a text message involved.  Later in the evening, Kim had gone to their room while Matt was still in the Great Room.  From there he sent Kim a text message saying, “Come back up here, please.”  When Kim joined him in front of the fireplace, Matt proposed!

Cory's proposal table.

Other proposals have been made in the couple’s room and out by the pond gazebo.  Several young men have arranged to have the ring hidden on the land so it could be found with one of our GPS receivers as the couple was supposedly looking for a lucky coin.  Cory, from Minnetonka, went a step further and arranged to have us set up a table at the end of one of the trails with flowers, champagne and a treasure chest containing the ring.

But, whether simple or elaborate, the proposals of marriage here at Woodland Trails have been memorable for both the couple and for us!
